Glue the broken seam together with Sikaflex adhesive,
Cheers Charlie
Well not good at all..
Got most of the outside of the rear panel striped , Both the sides are done to.I also cut the bottom off the 2 square bit that go on the back at each side so now all level no overhang. When i put it back on i'll make new brackets for then as they need to be longer..
This is all broken away on the drivers side.
And this is the bottom bit that bolts to the chassis all the spot welds are broken apart on both ends..
Should be like this bit in the middle..
And this is where the door strikers bolt on Both sides are stuffed..
May have to replace this panel or get a SWB tub & make another one up from that..

Sikaflex is available from Bunnings. It is a polyurethane adhesive and sealer that comes in a caulking gun-type tube. Buy the Marine version (291).
Most buses have the aluminium panels held to aluminium frames using sikaflex.
Sikaflex and rivets will be stronger than the original. Use extra aluminium as reinforcing where necessary.
Well I've just finished reading all 39 pages and thoroughly enjoyed it, and I've learnt aload of 'techo' stuff about the Series L/R. Just subscribed to the thread.
Makes me want to get back 'on the tools'.
Well got all the outside of the rear window panel sanded & ready for etch primer also got most of the inside sanded..
Also picked up some sikaflex for the marine type. Its white i thought it was Black.? Well says white on the tube havent looked inside it yet..
Also picked up some windscreen sealant cause thats what we sealed the roof with in the green one when building it . I separated the roof from the chanel & used it when put it bach together as it doesnt set fully hard BUT 3 years on & its leaking so got some more to fix it also got the tube of it as one of the side windows & small rear window is leaking..
Anyway i want to do the same with the roof on harry to get it cleaned up better. As i have never used this sikaflex before would this be good to use when putting the roof back onto the chanel & put all thos rivets back in.
or just use the window sealant ????
Oh & those work stands make working much better..

Using the Sikaflex adhesive on the roof join, will make a permanent bond that will be impossible to undo if you wish to. I think I will use it on my ute cab roof when I re-rivet it; however; the windscreen sealant might work just as well - see what it says on the label,
Cheers Charlie

Well i been hard at it , & got the rear window panel finished.
I have been sanding & getting it ready for primer.I also cut the bit where the door rubbers go so i can use defender door rubbers again..
On the passenger side rear corner window where all the rivet holes were i filled the inside with metal tech filler.which is a bog but has fibers in it & stainless steel ,(like dust mixed in it ). but it is very strong & with the fibers in it , it will stick good to just about anything.I sanded the inside but not flush so there is a little mound as such.
Then i did the outside of the holes with a lightweight body filler & sanded to nearly flush.
Then cut that side ready for fender door rubbers.
I got it all finished off this morning..
