I have now got a set of defender wind down window doors for harry , there off an early model so have the same looking door handles as a series & I will be making some capping to go on them so they look like series doors to only just with wind down windows..

Ok so ive done a little work to Harry.. I separated the bonnet & the frame.

First coat of gloss black epoxy

Second coat but the pics not to good.

    Underside of bonnet primed

    Wet sanded it

Ok so the frame is put back in & sikaflexed in & riveted back in ready for the rivets on underside to be painted black , Then tape & mask up the fram ready for the bonnet to be paonted..

Also today one of my new defender doors arrived here to.YAY wind down windows BUT still has the same look door handle..All the way from Darwin.

Now can anyone tell me do all defenders have this rubber around the inside frame or is this someones after thought & they are usualy bare & just use the door rubber on the body around the door jam..I have no idea & the only defender I have seen in the flesh up close I didn't take any notice of it..

I still cant find any of those front brackets I need to go on the front that the radiator sits in.I need them as the frame in front of the radiator bolts to it aswell the frame the bonnet pin goes into when you shut the bonnet..

Defender doors do not have rubber on them. And strictly speaking, it is not a Defender door - the Defender name was not introduced until two years after that type of door handle was replaced by pushbutton ones. Do you have the galvanised trim strip to go on the door?

Hi John. I just call them defender doors cause they have wind down windows. No I don't have the gal strip. I have a few sets off standard series doors so was going to make something up. In all honesty I didn't know there was anything like that that's why I kept the sets I have so could make something.

I wasn't sure about that rubber strip around the door. I thought that it was spoked to be bare but thought I better ask before I strip them for repairs & paint. Obveisly the last owner didn't have the door adjusted right & took the easy way out.

There's a galvanised strip held on by three (I think, might be four spring clips - looks like that door may have had the holes bogged up no doubt you will find this out as you prepare for painting.

So I'm on the lookout for a series chassis for a project I need. Will help to get Harry finished.

On the other hand I've finished removing the central wall in the shed. And I may have solved the storage problem. I'm trying to get another chassis or if I have to another complete car. I'm going to cut the centre of the chassis out & put some heavy duty castor wheels on it. So I can put the body on it once I've painted it all. That way I can build the car in the shed & finish off the wiring everything on the cab other then the guards bonnet & grill. Then I will do all the brake lines on my chassis so all I have to do is lift the cab off cut chassis onto Harry's chassis all done. Mite need a help for that or I maybe able to use the hoist. Will have to wait see. & wait see if I can find something. We found a complete car on gumtree for $500 Ono but don't know if it's a long or short wheelbase. It's in Newcastle so we emailed them & just have to wait to see if they get back to us. If not we will txt them as we think there was a mobile number in the add. I'm still tinkering in the shed cleaning up & finding spots for everything it's nearly all done then into painting. But I thought the chassis idea was a good one. Anyway will see what happens.

That Landy has been sold we txt the number today.

Ok so had to dig this outa the depths. I have been doing a little to Harry.

    Sanding & more sanding

Some cutting , welding & grinding & the doors are repaired.

YES there series 3 door bottoms to repair the defender door bottoms. They work..

& today I shot some primer. only have the doors baulkhead & lower rear panel left to finish off then prime. I use DUXONE hi fill etch primer. expensive but worth it ..

Oh & the seat box to do aswell but I need to make some repairs to that aswell..
Im hoping I mite be able to get a bit done this week..
