Stranded series 3

I flew down to melb the other day to pick up a series 3 from a mates parents. I was going to buy it from them. When it came time to hand over the coin they just refused. Could not believe what i was hearing. The more i pushed to pay something, the more offended they became. So eventunatly i drove the beast away, and started my 600k journey back to mildura. Got out of melb ok, everything was running sweet. Untill about 60ks from Bendigo something in the motor let go in a big way. Lots of noise, no loss of power though. I think it may be a gudgen pin. Any way found a local mechanic and he confirmed it was a major problem and offered to look after the car untill i could return to pick it up. So i returned to Mildura by bus, and proceeded to fix the td5 130 with head/overheating problems. About a week later and i now have the td5 sorted ( I think ). So next week i will borrow a car trailer and head back down to bendigo to pick up this beautifull beast that i have left at a complete strangers house.

And the saga continues.

Next installment after the car is picked up.

Not too interesting i hope. Off to pick up the car trailer tomorrow. Then back to Bendigo about mid week. I want to do some driving in the td5 to confirm all is well with it.

Me thinks you have a warranty claim on your hands!

At least in the US it would be a claim and you'd probably win.

G'day Jimbob

Is it 4 cylinder 2.25? if so, is there any blue smoke from the pipe? that could indicate the crown off a piston,no smoke,but a loud hammering sound when running at revs, but fades a certain revs,possible broken big end bearing bolt,had one go on me a few years ago,very noisy on take off but quitened at about 15-1600 revs,got it home 55klms up the Bruce Highway (did it when going to a funeral all dressed up in a suit with the management with me) or it could possibly be a dropped valve head,they make a frightful noise.

G'Day Uncle, No its the 6 cyl. But other than that you have described the symptoms down to a T. Very loud, but i guess you left your ear plugs in your other suit pocket..

If you want bits i have a 6cyl just sitting here doing nothing. Fully rebuilt carby and dizzy is just about brand new. Pistons are smashed and snapped but some conrods are alright + valves and most other bits. Interested to hear the rest of the story.

Thanks Chomby, But the car came with 2 spare motors. I just need to get them up here too ( still in Melb ).

It is sounding like these motors have a few small issues? Or am i just unlucky?
