Stage 1 is not one-ton. A stage 1 front axle still has 10-spline diffs. The CVs and outer axles are stronger, but the overall package isn't much stronger than a standard S3 109" front. (that said I haven't broken my stage 1 front in several years of hard offroading on 33's).
Daryl
The Stage 1 has 3.54:1 diffs, so it you use one of those you also have to swap the diff back to 4.7:1 or use a 3.54:1 in the rear.
The Stage 1 CV's are an orphan not used in any other model, they are probably stronger than the yokes in the SIII halfshafts and are stronger than the later RR classic and Defender CV's but there are probably stronger after market CVs around. (Stage one halfshafts frequently fail at the diff spline.)
Ben
The 1 Ton helical transfer box uses the same housing as the standard series transfer box. The result is the prop shaft outputs are in the same positions.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Ok, so the front axle roundup so far.....
Strongest to weakest:
109" one ton Salisbury ... scratched as unavailable.
rear Salisbury modified for front .. I really don't need the extra work at this stage.
stage one ... ratios are no problem, but scratched due to orphan cv status.
109" one ton Rover ... am I reading this right or is this the same axle as the standard 109 from Sept' 1974 in which case either will do as they are the same unit?
Cheers,
Daryl.
With the exception of the after-market options, you've got it correct.

What abiout a tru track and some new HD axles?
TT around $500- shipped from US
Daryl,
Listen very carefully, I shall say zis only vonce:
There are NO standard AND common series parts that are strong. Most aftermarket axles are a mile better than anything land rover ever produced.
Maxi-Drive, Ashcroft, Jacmac and Rovertracks components make OEM series stuff look like it was made from cheese.
