Why would ol be getting to one side and not the other?
I will have a look at the seal face shortly.
I do actually have a totally complete pair of stage 1 diffs so I could borrow one from there if need be.

Is that the seal I see? while it may have been pulled off when you removed the hub, I wonder if it had already dislodged from the hub. This could have allowed water and dirt into the bearing. Certainly the generally rusty look to things suggests water has got in - a blocked breather may have resulted in either the seal being pushed out or water being sucked in, and that seal was the weakest point.
