    Which Carby

    Greetings
My S3 has been in a shed for 5 plus years I am trying to get it going It has the emission gear on it with a 175 carby. Should I ditch all this and put a 36IV carby. Some of the hose's are old and perished I wonder if these are part of the problem. Cheers Bill

I do not think that the type of carburetter is likely to be a problem. But the condition of it is, as is the state of the emissions gear.

As a first step I would be inclined to replace all hoses and completely strip and examine the carburetter - if it has had fuel dry in it, it is very likely to have blocked jets or passages.

What do you mean by "175 carby"? If it's a Zenith-Stromberg 175CD, I have to assume it's a six-cylinder model, in which case you can't fit a Zenith 36IV without major fabrication. If it's a four-cylinder, the fabrication has already been done.

The only thing I know of 175CD reliability is that the condition of the diaphragm is critical to even starting and idling.
