    2.25 starter motor

Has anyone had a problem with a petrol starter motor not throwing in to the ring gear? I have had it apart and it is free as a bird but for some reason sometimes it just won't throw in.

They are good too I thought they might be sticking so I gave it a grease. It worked for a while but the car sits and that's when it stops working

Never use grease or oil on these drives. Ensure they are clean, free and dry, and lubricate with powdered graphite.

Failure to engage can also be caused if the starter is "slow off the mark" due to electrical problems, typically a faulty connection or burnt contacts in the switch or solenoid, but can also be a first symptom of poling or a starter full of dirt.
