Colour Code Land Rover "Yellow" Series 3 Game

    Hello Folks,

Yes I am practising avoidance . I have had a week's break away from my PhD write-up. I know once I start again later today it is going to be an all consuming dash for the finish line. So while I am free I will dream for a while of a life of freedom, a time with no study where I can have more time to work on Land Rovers.

Anyway, Baldrick will need a new coat of paint when he goes for the road worthy inspection. Baldrick's current main colour is patchy, tatty, mouldy and bits of primer showing through with a fair bit of faded Camino Gold. After getting rust repairs done to various parts of the body I treated the areas with White Knight Red Oxide paint and then gave it a top coat of a White Knight yellow/gold. This colour has been growing on me and I am wondering how close this colour is to the yellow which Series 3 Games are painted?

In case people comment on my spray painting ability the main purpose was to get a coat of paint stuck over the oxide to seal it. I will do pretty spray painting and masking off later on down the road.

How close is the White Knight Yellow/Gold to the "yellow" used on the Land Rover Game? Does anyone know what the colour code - mix be for the Game is? What is the Land Rover name for the shade of paint used on the Game?

Out of interest was the Game the only yellow colour that Land Rover produced?

Oh Well the certain document starting with P and ending in D is waiting to take over my life again.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

The Game was an Australian marketing abberation and the colour was borrowed from the Leyland/BMC vehicles of the era, particularly the Moke Californian. "Yellow Devil and the Code 566-17422"

Another yellow was that applied to the vehicles for the Department of Civil Aviation, both for on airport use and where Land Rovers were mostly used for maintenance of air navigation beacons and transponders in remote locations.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Is this Game Yellow

    Hello All,

I found this interesting Series 3 and it is painted yellow too. Is this close to the Game yellow? Thank you Lotz-a-Landies for the Moke Californian Yellow Devil paint name and the colour code.

Hmmm now if one of my Land Rovers could look like that ... . Its wheel configuration is interesting too

    Hello Lotz-A-Landies,

With your tip from the Moke Californian I visited a Moke forum (Paint Codes) and there were a couple of threads that mention that there was also a Moke colour before the Yellow Devil which people list off their vehicle ID plate as Highway Yellow in the 1970s. Unfortunately, no one provides a photograph or a colour code.

The brand of paint for the Yellow Devil paint was Dulon, Is this a Dulux product?

Why did I visit the Moke forum? I am a researcher and I just cannot help myself

Yes I have started back on the PhD...

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

    Highway Yellow?

    Hello All,

I just found this 1967 Moke which is described as "Yellow" by the seller. Not sure if it is the original paint?

Accessed 29th October 2013 from 1967 Mini Moke, Used Cars For Sale - Carsforsale.com

If this is Highway Yellow I think I much prefer Yellow Devil

    Hi Lionel

I admire you for continuing with your doctorate, I chucked a wabbly 2/3 the way through my second masters degree and walked out.

The paint code I gave you was off the Game. The thing about the colour codes is that the colours were used across the whole Leyland Australia range. You see camino gold in the SIII the Range Rover 2 door and the Austin 1800, then the colour changes to Bahama and the same thing happens. The highway yellow probably pre-dated the Game.

It is possible that the Land Rovers built for DCA may have been painted in the Highway Yellow if that was the colour Leyland was using on mokes and minis at the time of the DCA Land Rover production.

    Hello 76swb,

Think of it more as taking time to strategise so that you can develop a plan of attack and also devise plans for unexpected stumbling blocks along the way.

    Happy painting

    Kind Regards
    Lionel
