AFAIK The "Game" paint olour was known as "Yellow Devil".

The Game was an Australian marketing abberation and the colour was borrowed from the Leyland/BMC vehicles of the era, particularly the Moke Californian. "Yellow Devil and the Code 566-17422"

Another yellow was that applied to the vehicles for the Department of Civil Aviation, both for on airport use and where Land Rovers were mostly used for maintenance of air navigation beacons and transponders in remote locations.

I found this interesting Series 3 and it is painted yellow too. Is this close to the Game yellow? Thank you Lotz-a-Landies for the Moke Californian Yellow Devil paint name and the colour code.

Hmmm now if one of my Land Rovers could look like that ... . Its wheel configuration is interesting too

With your tip from the Moke Californian I visited a Moke forum (Paint Codes) and there were a couple of threads that mention that there was also a Moke colour before the Yellow Devil which people list off their vehicle ID plate as Highway Yellow in the 1970s. Unfortunately, no one provides a photograph or a colour code.

The brand of paint for the Yellow Devil paint was Dulon, Is this a Dulux product?

Why did I visit the Moke forum? I am a researcher and I just cannot help myself

I just found this 1967 Moke which is described as "Yellow" by the seller. Not sure if it is the original paint?

Hi Lionel

I admire you for continuing with your doctorate, I chucked a wabbly 2/3 the way through my second masters degree and walked out.

The paint code I gave you was off the Game. The thing about the colour codes is that the colours were used across the whole Leyland Australia range. You see camino gold in the SIII the Range Rover 2 door and the Austin 1800, then the colour changes to Bahama and the same thing happens. The highway yellow probably pre-dated the Game.

It is possible that the Land Rovers built for DCA may have been painted in the Highway Yellow if that was the colour Leyland was using on mokes and minis at the time of the DCA Land Rover production.
