    Winch mount ideas

    Hi guys,

I've got my series booked in next week at the fabricators to have a winch mount made up for a 12000lb warn winch. I'm hoping for some input as to what to ask him to do. I've flicked through as many pics as I can and have noticed a lot of them are mounted higher than the chassis rails. Laws of physics tell me that's going to create leverage on the mounting bolts. I'm after an authentic look leaving the original bumper and reinforcing it from behind, if anyone has any pics or design ideas it would be a huge help.

    Cheers Benny

An authentic looking drum winch would be a Thomas or Bamford pto winch. Both of these come with mounting frames to suit the series chasis. Failing these, a Warn high mount electric will look period correct for a SIII.

Unfortunately I already have the low mount winch sitting there but yes a high mount would look much better. That's what I'm opting for in the puma.

    LR series winch

    Hi,

Not sure if it helps but the photo shows the original PTO winch on my S3 swb.
It is mounted to the top of the chassis rails where the apron would normally be.

    Regards,

    Phil

As far as I know, roller fairleads were more common than hawser fairleads in the Series Landy era, though my old Warn high-mount had a cast iron hawser fairlead with it when I acquired it.
