If it still runs the series gearbox, then it should bolt straight in. Does the engine have a flywheel and clutch? Holden alternator can be made to fit easily with some new brackets.

Update,
Picked up a 902****** 2,250 petrol motor complete.
Has started and run for a short period.
Minus head. ( only the head block )
Starter motor.
Alternator.
Has a Stromberg carby fitted.
Pistons have no sizing on them, only number, 1,2,3 and 4 and X.
Would oversized piston be marked ????
No detectable movement in big end.
Also have the dash from the series 3, with 26,000 on the clock.
If I took the Holden 186 out would it go straight in ????
The engine mounts were not changed to fit the Holden.
Would the Holden Alternator fit ????
Anyone have a head, Northern NSW/Tweed ????
Marshals Garage, Burringbar still around ????

Think I should see what he wants for the gearbox, as its also off a 77 series 3 ????

Your gearbox shouldn't have been touched. Usually an adaptor plate on the engine and a new spigot bush in the crank of the Holden motor is all that is required on that end. If your gearbox is in good condition, just leave it, but if it's an unknown, grabbing a spare wouldn't hurt.

The only likely catch is if the original motor was a six - the bell housing is different, so the four cylinder motor would not fit it. This should be evident by the bulkhead or the chassis number. Or, if it was originally a four, the gearlever is closer to the bulkhead than to the seat box, the six has it further back.

Just checked, and the gearbox lever is nearer the bulk head,
So all good.
Bicicat, The gear box does slip out of 2 second low range, when coasting down hill.
Maybe first gear, high range also.
The gearbox seems very simular to my Grey Fergy one.
So do balls and springs work on the slider shafts, as they enter the gearbox ????
Is there another broken spring internally ???? That hold things in gear.

regards chassis repair.
do I cut out and weld in a piece, or plate over the top.
How easy is it to get a rust proffer inside the length of the chassis rails ????
Would YOU, stick with the Holden, OR put the Land rover motor back in ????

With the chassis repair, I would cut out the offending pieces and replace them. If they are easy enough to get to, clamp a piece of new metal over the area to be repaired, then cut through both the new and the old with a 1mm cutting wheel. The new bit will then be the perfect size. A couple of magnets to hold it and go nuts with a MIG. Tighter spots will require a bit more work, but don't be tempted to plate over the rust - it will just come back.
The Landy engine won't have as much power, but is smoother and revs easier IMO. Much better matched for the vehicle than the Holden donk - I've owned both, including a Holden conversion on a shorty I did myself - I should have rebuilt the 2.25, but I'm by no means a Holden hater - they are a reliable and simple engine.
Fuel consumption will be better with the 2.25 if it's driven sensibly.

I noticed the rear diff and gearbox have the Half moon, recess in them.
Didn't have a good look, are they a square recess, or half moon ????
What is the best way to make this tool up ????
I was thinking of a few washers, with a long bolt through them.
Maybe a jack raised to hold them up, in position.
Anything else I could make ????

Sorry, what recess are you talking about? Not sure if you mean the oil drain plugs? These are just 1/2" square drive.
