    stage one trayback

Have the opportunity to buy a 1980 stage one trayback.Has small rust hole in lower drivers side firewall, small hole in top of pass firewall, bit of rust in both footwells, all not bad.Pass door top bad rust, drivers fixable.Chassis seems ok,has long range tank.Seats need repairing, paint a bit sad.No starter motor but enging was running.Has been sitting for a while.Comes with some spare parts. What would something like this be worth?I'm not looking for an exact figure but roughly what i should pay.Owner says make an offer.I have no idea on stage ones

Any rego? When was it last on the road? Things go south when parked up for too long. Clutch and brakes work? Radiator holding coolant? A full ground up resto job is obviously going to be much cheaper than a going concern.

Any more details or some good pics?

Rego ran out in 09.Have only had a 15 minute look so far just to see what it is like. Will have a more serious look another day.Brake fluid is way down, clutch works.Have done up a series 3 before so know what they are like.I am thinking of only a couple of hundred dollars so far,but we will see. What i was wanting to know is a stage one worth more than an equivilant 4 cyl petrol in same condition.Ihave heard stage ones are becoming rare.He also has a county but i think i'd have buckleys of getting that off him.He is an old mate of mine
PS,rangie working ok so far,but have put charger on it as i've heard low voltage causes weird things

Yes, I think stage 1's are getting a bit thin on the ground. If you can get it for a few hundred then I wouldn't care what condition it was in as long as it was complete. I believe there are differences in the front axle assembly and some bits are getting hard to find, but I'm not sure exactly what those may be. May pay to check that is all serviceable and not been taken for parts.

Good luck, and be sure to post some pics if you snag it.

As with any of these, price is entirely dependent on condition. Stage 1 is probably worth more than the four or six, especially if it is Isuzu engined.

As mentioned, the front axle has some bits that are unique to the Stage 1, and these are getting hard to find. The axles are likely to be in demand as well for people wanting to put a Disco engine and transmission in a Series, thus having full time four wheel drive.

I know this probably does not help, but even for parts it is probably worth $500 or more if the panels are in fairly good shape.

I say it grab it if even as a parts car its worth it, just trying buying a stage one entire diff assembly (drum to drum) if you can and when you do it will set you back easily $500. if panels are in good nick it runs/drives ok its easily worth $1500. Have seen very really tired and rusty vehicles sell for over $2,500.

Stage One's are getting very rare on the road. I own one and drive it every day as it is my only vehicle. I use it as a work vehicle as well as my weekend surf Safari ride. Both tasks are a joy and it is amazing how many times people ask me about the vehicle or leave notes under the wipers with their phone number asking if I would like to sell it.

it is a no brainer if you can pick it up for a couple of hundred dollars! If you don't buy it can you pass on the details as I would happily pay 5 times that for what you have described. I would like a spare vehicle for parts.

The last time I saw another Stage One on the road was in Victoria about 5 years ago while I was visiting a friend in Torquay. I live in Perth and there just are not any getting around on the road over here or at least I haven't seen them. I have seen more Series One Land Rovers on the road than the original V8 Land Rover. Buy it and restore it, you won't be disappointed.

    Regards Warrick.

Yes. Stage 1's are very collectable. If I had the space, I'd be buying every one I find.
I would love to have this one:
