    What happend to my carby

    I thought I could smell petrol

    Take a look at the pics below

    How is the brass/copper section supposed to be secured within the carby

    It was rebuilt just before I bought the S3 off a fella in Nov 2013

    Not sure how it is meant to be held, but I used araldite after thoroughly cleaning both surfaces. Stlll going strong fifteen years later. If I was doing it again though I'd probably find or make a threaded fitting and tap the hole and use loktite.

    Loctite Shaft & Bearing Mount should do the job,

    It's a push in, interference fit.

    You can get it lightly knurled and then tap it in gently till the sealing taper seats or you can use loctite bearing mount, 609 from memory.

    If your on the side of the road and have nothing else use scratch up the surface of the brass fitting clean the inside of the car by make sure it's dry and then put it in with loctite 262

    I knew what knurling as in what a knurled nut was but was just wanting to make sure that Blknight and I were on the same wavelength . I was wondering what process I would use to knurl that bit of pipe.

    I could rough it up with a coarse file or something

    Lathe and a knurling tool.

    Do not file, filing removes material you want to so.ole move it around abit to make the fitting expand by introducing void space on the surface.

    I would not knurl it in a lathe, as the pressure required on the tool-wheels may well bend, or distort the tube.

    I was going to suggest in my earlier post to Chinese-knurl it, which is to raise the surface with a centre-punch, whilst supporting the inside with a steel mandrel.

    However, Loctite makes any form of knurling obsolete in this case, especially as their retaining compounds can fill gaps up to 0.25mm,
