    Capstan winch

I have a Fairey capstan winch in the shed, and I'm contemplating fitting it to my SIII. It's a 4000lb winch and was, I believe, originally fitted to a Range Rover. Obviously I need to acquire or fabricate a dog, crankshaft nut, sprung driveshaft support and mounting plate that fit the SIII, but I'm not sure if there is anything else that is needed. I believe the winch itself is the same, which really only leaves the driveshaft. Does anyone know if there are more than one style/length of driveshaft for the Fairey?

Too dark to go to the shed now, but the "Serial Number" stamped on the Fairey plate is something like RR1.9 which I remember because it didn't look like a serial number....

Do a search on ebay, there is a few sellers of the drive bits. If the prices are too scary, at least the pics give you an idea how to fabricate them

I spoke to one of the guys on eBay who sells the mounting plates, and he said that the driveshaft _might_ be a different length on the Range rover version, but he wasn't 100% certain.

I'd like to find out for certain before I invest time or money in buying/making the other bits! So what I really need is a measurement for a "Series" Fairey capstan winch driveshaft length, either end to end or from some easily recognisable points...

I have a Capstan Winch (not sure of name) which came off my series 3 75 Diesel. Its in bits and I'm not entirely sure where all the bits are - but if you get stuck, give me a shout and I'll try find it all and lay it out and take pics for you.
    cheers,

You might have to sell the vehicle to buy the parts you need though......
