Thread: water pump torque setings

No actual listing for the water pump bolts, however my manual has torque settings for the 5/16th dia bolts on the rocker gear and the cylinder head at 18lb. The inlet to exhaust manifold bolts are listed as 17lb. From memory the water pump has 5/16" bolts too! So assuming all these bolts are the equivalent grade/tensile to the water pump bolts, there is your answer. Maybe start at 15 or 16lb and if you think they need a bit more increase the torque. Or do one freehand with a spanner to what you think is a reasonable tension for the dia of the bolt, then set your tension from it, if you know what I mean.

for any shed class landrover bolt torque for a miscelaneous bolt that does not have a specced torque.

jump onto google and use a generic torque setting for the bolt description you have ,remember you need 3 key bits of information and 4 optional but helpful other pieces of information

As a minimum you need
The shank diameter
the bolt material OR the head markings
The thread pitch. (most bolts have 3 general thread classes Fine, normal and coarse)

The optional info
what is it threading into
what is it holding
is it a wet or dry torque
is it a compresison or shear load?

There is a formula for working all this out to get to the generic torque settings. and they are in the engineers little black book.
