    series 3

    Well,
I just brought home another, complete SWB series 3.
The chassis is completly stuffed, but it has all the extra bits needed for Gilbert.
Don't know how wrecking a series will go with some members.
Also has the Factory fitted retractable seat belts with brackets.
both doors are in great condition, as are the rest of the panels.
    New looking yellow shocks.
    Tub in better condition.
Mirror brackets on front of windscreen pivot point.
Noticed it had chrome surround lights fitted. and Leyland badge on the doors.
31x9.5x15 tyres are 80% on alloy rims. What would they be off. What tyre size would bring rolling diameter up to 7.50x16 ????
    Old Banana Farm Landy.
Wish I hadn't cut the other chassis for Gilbert.
Fist observations were the Firewall Looked a lot better than Gilberts.
But that looked good untill I started removing bits and pieces.
Will put a battery in it, and see what lights up.
Pics to follow, bit dark when i got home.

Looks like you have won the lottery.
Those tyres would be pretty close.
    7.50 x 16 is basically 7.5 inches above the rim, so 7.5 x 2 + 16 gives you 31 inches.

    Cheers, Mick.

I would have thought if the Chassis is completely buggered you'd have no real option other than to break it up for parts. Looking forward to the pics and to see whether it fired up.
    Good luck.
    cheers,

Went down, to take pics, moved seats to the tub, they were covering the gear levers and underneath an extra knob.
Remove centre panel to see a Fairey Overdrive also fitted.
Just discovered Its a 1975 model. Last registered in 2005.
Took a Battery down, turned key, Green ( oil Pressure ? ) light came on.
Will try again, lead to starter, later in the week.
Radiator fluid nice and green, will check oil next time.

Yep, oil pressure light. Pull out the choke (if it's petrol) and you should see a yellow one, put the lights on high beam and you'll see a blue one. That's if they are all connected and working, of course.
If it's diesel, then where the choke would be on a petrol(LHS of steering wheel) is the diesel stop button.
Headlights are on one switch (two position-first click is parkers, second is mains), panel lights on another, and panel lights only come on if the parkers or headlights are already on.
If it's petrol and you try to start it, pull out the choke and then check under the bonnet to ensure the choke has come on. It operates on a spring which closes the butterfly when the cam withdraws from a small pin on the shaft just outside of the throat (Zenith carby), and may be sticky. Petrol 2.25 are hard to start if the choke doesn't come on.
    Cheers

    Thanks Coop.
Did work many years ago as a linesman in Cornwall UK.
Drove series 3's for 6 years, but don't remember much about them.
Some series 3's had a two speed wiper. Would there be a two click position,
    for one of these.
What model series 3's did the ignition key fit the drivers door.
The 4 shocks fitted are yellow and larger than the ones on Gilbert.
Will have to look for a label on them.
    will get more pics soon.

My S3 is a 1976 model and only has one speed windscreen wipers (actually we call them windscreen smearers). If yours has a 2-position switch then it may have been fitted later.
I agree with Rod- my shocks are OME's and they are yellow.
My 1976 S3 has three keys: one fits the driver and passenger doors, one fits the ignition and the last one fits the rear door. This is probably not standard...
    Cheers

As far as I know, no Series 3 ever had the doors and ignition common keyed, it was impossible once a steering lock was fitted, early in S3 sale in Australia. Two speed wipers were mandated by ADRs some time in S3 production, but I don't know what date. And, of course, as with all Series vehicles - bits are interchangeable!
