    Series III Air valves?

    G'day all,
I was looking at my ute and I noticed these air valves at the front either side of the grill. They have a small hose run down to the shock absorbers. My chassis is resting on the leaf springs so could I put air in to them and 'pump' up the cab? Any other information about them would be great to. Thank in advance.

    Nathan.

Looks like someone has fitted air shockies to combat saggy springs. Common in the "old" days.

Can I fill it up with standard air and are the numbers for bar pressure?

You will probably find the pressures are in PSI. you can try pumping them up but who knows if they still even hold air anymore. Worth a try at least. Dont put too much in them or they will pop. Try 25psi first to see if they even hold air. Dont put more than 70psi in them unless it says so on the valve thingy

Thanks. On the valve it says 200MAX 25MIN Pressure. That's what made me think it was Bar pressure not PSI.

200 bar is massive pressure (2,900PSI!), it is PSI. Most of those style shocks didn't need more than 50 to 80PSI.

Just use any old compressor a stick in 30 or 40 PSI and see what it looks like.

Thanks all for your help. I in 25psi and noticed no difference, I then incrementally went up to 50psi. I have noticed the driving is softer now but the springs are still so close to the chassis. I will recount the springs tomorrow but I think there's only about seven although they appear thicker (individually) than the original 10/11 springs. I have a spare leaf and plan to toss it in when I get the time. Would this help or are the shocks most likely had it?

They could be stuffed as far as supplying any dampening, but if they're hokding pressure they should be able to lift the vehicle slightly. Best solution though would be new/good second hand springs and shocks.

If your springs are touching the chassis, other than knackered springs the chassis and spring bushes might be flogged out. With prolonged periods of the springs rubbing on the chassis you are going to end up with damage to the chassis etc.

    Just as an update.

I have now put in 100psi and I have found the ride quality much better, it's like a new car. The height has lifted slightly but not much (about 5mm). I plan to put in the extra leaves when I get a chance (1 per corner).

    Thankyou for all your assistance.

    Nathan.
