On my fathers S3 we had a tap between the two tanks before the fuel pump , used to run on the L/H tank untill the engine wouls serge then quickly turn the tap to use the R/H tank . The tap was mounted in the front of the seat box near the hand brake .

) Old school but effective, as long as the trip meter works I guess. I find that I only have a few litres of fuel left in the second tank each time. Even if it did let you down you switch tanks when she splutters and if you stick to the system you are on a gauge. Toyed with the idea of a second sender but eventually didn't see the point.
