I think the last set of pistons I bought from FWD Motors were 0.020" or 0.030", but they were dirt cheap. However they had every size from 0.020-0.080" (either in stock or able to be ordered - and not too $$$). A mate even bought 0.060" ACL pistons (with rings) for about the same price as your rings cost!!!

However - prices have probably gone up in recent times, in line with the increased metals prices...

In Brisbane, I would reccommend FWD at Yeerongpilly for parts. I used to get all my machining work (boring/honing, crank grinding, cylinder heads) done by this place:

I am a regular at FWD motors, so i will price up some stuff there i think. Usually pretty happy with them.

Thanks Dave, i will have a think about it. I have not stripped down or taken the engine out of my other landy yet so i will have see what kind of condition mine is in first.

I don't yet have a specific use for the engine, i am just thinking of a future project landy, might as well start with the powerplant

that being the case I have a chassis that IVe turned into a runup bench that I used to use for testing 2.25l engines and the transmissions on, if youd like to borrow that It can be arranged.

By the way, there seem to be a fair few special tools listed in the workshop manual, How many of these are actually required? I'm guessing a bit of fiddley use of common tools could make do in most situations!

When I last rebuilt my engine, the only specialty tools that I used were a ring expander, a ring compressor (get the wrinkle band type rather than the cheap one) and some plastiguage. I large socket will take the starting dog from the front of the crankshaft. I did hone my engine myself, but most people get this done by the machine shop when they get the block bored. You will also need a torque wrench, chain block or engine crane, engine stand and feeler guages. I consider these essential rather than specialty tools.
