I had a contact number for a company in Melbourne that did new series Door Tops. I have lost all the details. The company sold new Door Tops with the glazing kits. Anybody here know the company I am looking for?
I can't seem to find any info here or on the web.
My partner is in Melbourne this weekend and I have the rare opportunity to claim brownie points that I have up my sleave.
Alternatively anybody in Perth with a pair in excellent condition, let me know what ya got and how much you want for it.
Cheers,
Nathanial

I bought some 2nd hand perentie (military 110) door tops.
All alloy, double sliding glass, fantastic!
Hard to find though.
Garry at Clearwater drive parts in Blue Mountains had a set but they were not cheap $700 I think, you could chase him up he may let them go for less now but that up to him of cause. From the States they will set you back $600-$700 a pair to buy and send to Oz.
kindest regards
Garry
Thanks all.
I spoke to someone at West Coast 4wd yesterday and he is getting some in late next week. They are alloy door tops and are about $130 - $135 each. Add about $25 for the new channel.
He said they are ex eastern states, so I am assuming they are coming from the same place in Melbourne.
I still wouldn't mind trying to find out the supplier over there though. I mean I am happy to support business here and for a few dollars more will buy here, but I am curious to see the prices ex manufacturer.
Geeze those perentie (military 110) door tops sound nice! I need both my kidneys though...
Cheers

I paid about $60 each for mine from FWD in brisbane. Needed to fit new bolts to one, but that was all.
IRC that the new (series 3 style) door tops for dad's IIA were about $70ish from FWD without glass.
Bailey channel was $15 a length (enough for one door). On that note, we fitted the bailey channel with sikaflex - no holes or screws to promote rust.
The perentie doors have a completely different bailey channel.
Thanks Ben I will give them a call first. That is getting to be quite a bit cheaper.
Cheers,
Nathanial
There seem to be two different companies that are doing reproduction door tops for the Series 3 which also fit the Series 2 and 2a. One company do a more accurate repro than the other but neither are excellent. If you can get the ones that are black primed rather than the ones that seem to be finished in a colourbond or two-pack similar to the beige of the stage 1.
Brian Danielson at Land Vehicle Spares Silverdale NSW seems to get tops made by both and they are about $120+ each.
A few tips:
- Before you start preparation check that the window lock mechanism fits. You will probably have to adjust it using something like a Dremmel.
- The size of the frame where the glass fits is oversize to the OEM door-tops. Check the positions of the glass when closed so that there will be sufficient overlap between the two panes you will probably have to space the outer pane up and back making sure that the aluminium fitting strips will hold the glass.
- Use stainless steel screws if you can, it will be easier next time.
- Try to get the window track that has plastic or stainless steel inside the rubber and felt.
- Drill extra drain holes to the outside lower corner to prevent water build up inside and reduce the amount of water that drips on your knee.
- If you have a S2/S2a seal up the hole in the bottom of the frame for the S3 window lock and use the mechanism at the top of the door as usual.
- use a rust preventative like POR15 or similar inside the frame or regularly mist inside with fish oil.
- Use grease on the two mounting bolts and never-sieze on the threads.
- Enjoy your series LR!

Addit: Unfortunately Sikaflex cures to a permanent urethane bond and next to impossible to remove without mechanical devices and a lot of elbow grease. There will still be one major leak for the lock device and that's more than enough to promote rust.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
