    Series III brake booster?

Somebody told me he fitted a power brake booster from a "later" Series III to an earlier Series III. Does anybody know if later ones had boosters, and if so, what the issues are in fitting one to an earlier vehicle?

    Cheers,
    Lane.

The 6cyl LWB I have just bought had one. I swapped it with my SWB one in less than an hour. 6 Bolts, two wires, one brake line, the vacuum line and the whole assembly including the pedal and switch comes out in one piece. One of the true Landy Gurus here will be able to tell you exactly which models you can get them off. Some of them have have dual brake circuits with two lines out, if your current system doesn't you may have to modify it to suit but it will be for the better. I believe you may need to cut your front wing to make it fit? I found mine was fine, but I do remember reading that somehwere else.

    Hi TJ
Look into using the front drums off that 6cyl landy on the SWB too.
They are 3" wide instead of 2 1/4" wide plus 2 wheel cylinders.
Its a much better braking system. You need to change the backing plates as well, its all a straight swap.

    Original dual braking system

This is the correct booster setup for later LWB vehicles. I read it was an optional extra for early series 3. This system also runs the shuttle valve on the chassis.

    Brakes

As I understand things, in 1980ish Landrover went through an 'axle rationalisation' scheme, which after many years of umming and aahhing decided to equipe ALL landrovers with the longwheelbase front axle!! I have a 1984 swb which is so equipped, imagine decent brakes at last. What a shame they didn't fit discs!!

Could you please post another photo - of the entire car? Is it the same colour that was very common here, that mustard yellow colour?

There were a couple of shades, the early series 3 were camino gold which is a bit lighter than bahama gold. There are extra photos in this post.
