Thread: Disc Brake Conversion.

I'm glad the disk has been identified. Please let me know about the brackets, i'm interested in two sets.

As for the braking forces acting on one side of the plate, you could always put tabs on both sides of the bracket and run two calipers per wheel. Haha a SWB would do a front flip Cheers

I separated the disc and hub today and found:

The original stud holes in the disc are 15mm confirming it is a DBA154.

The disc centre hole has been machined from 100mm out to 115mm.

The hub has been drilled and tapped close to some of the studs. The holes drilled in the disc and hub are unevenly spaced apart to fit around the studs.

The webs on the side of the hub have been ground off (see red mark up in photo).

It looks as though your set has the disc bolted to the bottom of the hub, the same as mine.

If you go to www.dba.com.au and type in a few dimensions their database will find the disc for you. You only need to put in one or two dimensions and it will list all discs with those dimensions.

Will check this tomorrow.

I have looked at your other relevant pics as well as this one TJWA.
I agree, the odd bolt spacing and closeness to the studs is an issue as is the removal of the webs on the hub.
Maybe the webs don't need to be machined off (or much less) if the disc is bored to a larger dia, or if the disc is ground out to match the webs. Rather then having the odd spacing the disc could be mounted/sandwiched between the hub and a machined (or laser cut) ring plate to allow for two socket head bolts between each of the five studs. The ring plate would allow for any issues with the clashing of the 5 to 6 stud issue and provide the mounting strength to compensate for the reduced disc mounting face.

could see if dba could make a run of disks for us with no stud holes machined in them

Sounds viable.

I was thinking the disc could have segments cut from it to fit around the webs. If we could find a similar disc with 5 holes instead of 6 it would make it much easier to fit also.

It would be brilliant to find a bigger disc that would slip over the top of the hub like the original drum. This would give extra clearance between the swivel housing and caliper, the clearance to the inner edge of the rim permitting.
