RRC front axles swivel housing and brakes onto S3

    Hi all!

I am very new to the S3 section of the forum as i have only recent bought a S3 troopy that i am converting into a single cab for racing purposes.

My question is i happened to aquire a pair of complete RRC swivel housing with axles and disk brake intact. Being a ten spline i was wondering if these are going to bolt straight up to the front of the S3.

they look like they would but just wanted to know of anyone can give me some insight,

    thanks!

a pic of when i bought it and a pic of what it looks like now!

you will find that the RRC shafts are too long to go into the Series housing by about 2" on each side. (the 10 spline RRC axles will fit the Series diff side gears)

Then you will find that the track rod which is behind the swivel housing and below the diff pinion is directly in line with the spring pack on your series.

Anything can be done if you really want it.

There is a Zeus disk brake conversion kit for the series Land Rover, but it can be pricey.

If you can get a LH drive RH swivel housing for a RRC you can modify the track rod to the front and have the drag link couple directly to the track rod. That will solve your track rod problem.

If you intend to race the Series, what transmission will you run - you may need to investigate CV joint front end in which case the wider track of the RRC may be of use. But if that is the case you may just as well start off with a 110.

it can be done... Its a lot of effort for very little gain. by the time you purchase and modify all of the bits its generally cheaper to just use the conversion kit OR to rework the whole rangie axle setup and drop in the 10 spline series diff.

I did that one about 20 years ago. I changed a front RR housing to leaf spring mounts instead of the coils and Mal Storey made up a couple of spacers for the rear salisbury to match the front track. He also made up longer axles for the salisbury to fit the wider track.I then fitted 110 flares to the S3 and it looked and performed very well. It had a 351 Ford C4 conversion in it as well. Surprised a few toyos and ****ans. You should have seen their faces when I overtook them doing about 110k towing a boat as well.

How did you get around the problem of the springs being in the same space as the track rod?

Putting my memory to the test now John! As I said that was 20 years ago. I seem to recall that I had the spring mounts on the front diff angled a little higher to clear the springs....Brian

Then you have to work out what you are going to do with the extra wheel nut!
