I think I may have one that I turned from Ali, and cut a slot in it. I will bring it tomorrow night.
Cheers, Mick.
This is a question for those who have changed bearings in their transfer case.
I am trying to get the front bearing shell out of the transfer case (the one between the main case and the front output shaft housing) and the manual says to cut up and grind an old bearing shell to use as a spacer so you can drive it out with the shaft. I don't have an old bearing shell to cut up as I have not yet taken the old bearing shell out of the case, kind of like the chicken or the egg coming first. I have another transfer case sitting there but it's bearing shell is also solidly in place so can't be used.
So the question is - is there another way to get it out? Some special tool or such like? If not is there anyone in Brisbane who has one they have made that I could borrow to get the first of these out and then make my own?
Thanks,
TimJ.

I had exactly the same problem a month or two ago. I turned up a dummy outer bearing race using aluminium. I could post it to you if you don't find one locally. Let me know how you go.
Aaron.
Hi Aaron,
Thanks very much for the offer but Mick had done pretty much the same and made one out of Ally and it worked fine. So I have now got it all apart and put it back together today with new bearings and seals and a few new thrust washers.
TimJ.
And I will now be able to make my own tool since I now have an old bearing shell.

Did you set the pre-load on the bearings correctly? Did you need any additional shims behind the speedometer drive housing?
Aaron.
Yes I did for both questions. I had a buggered transfer case to steal some extra shims off.

You're lucky that you had a spares transfer case to get some shims from. I didn't, so had to cut a shim from .020" shim stock. I might now invest in some shim punches, as ordinary wad punches make hard work of it.
Aaron.
