Weren't the axles in the PLUS 35 meant to be 'stronger'
I believe this to be correct as I recalled a conversation with Barry Marshall at Burringbah one day about the PLUS 35.

I think they may have been an option, and were fitted to armoured 88s and some other special vehicles. I have never seen one, and i would expect the only ones in Ausrtralia were on private imports, or possibly some trial builds for the AMF.

My 1975 Series 3 88” has one of those Salisbury diff and axle set ups. It was on it when I bought it and I don’t know anything of its origin.
Drives just fine.
Cheers
The potential issue with a salisbury in an 88 is that the prop shaft is pretty short due to the longer nose, and this leads to somewhat extreme U-joint angles, and probably precludes suspension lifts.
