Weren't the axles in the PLUS 35 meant to be 'stronger'
I believe this to be correct as I recalled a conversation with Barry Marshall at Burringbah one day about the PLUS 35.

Just wondering as the LWB series 3s my fathers company had, didn't break any axles, and they certainly got a flogging.
They were all the 6 cyl,and were often fully loaded,at times dragging trailers.
Getting badly stuck was sometimes a daily routine.

I remember the spare axles in the back, wrapped up in canvas,as we,as kids spent most of our time in there, amongst all the other gear, with not much airflow, but we survived....
Yes, as far as I know, all lwb Series 3 had Salisbury rears, which just don't break axles except possible some armoured ones and other specials, but I think even they did. Certainly none of them had Rover axles.

I had this in an 88. The Salisbury looked absolutely factory fitment rather than a modified axle.

I think they may have been an option, and were fitted to armoured 88s and some other special vehicles. I have never seen one, and i would expect the only ones in Ausrtralia were on private imports, or possibly some trial builds for the AMF.

My 1975 Series 3 88” has one of those Salisbury diff and axle set ups. It was on it when I bought it and I don’t know anything of its origin.

    Drives just fine.

The potential issue with a salisbury in an 88 is that the prop shaft is pretty short due to the longer nose, and this leads to somewhat extreme U-joint angles, and probably precludes suspension lifts.

Yes, the one fitted to my 88” looks like it was a factory effort rather than custom creation.
