Anyone fitted 3" snorkel to passenger side

G'day
I'm thinking of fitting a custom snorkel to the passenger side and relocating the air filter to the roof rack. This would enable filtered air to be fed to the turbo which is on the passenger side.

The plumbing looks a bit tight.

Advice from anyone whose done or seen something like this would be appreciated.

Southdown 4x4 in the UK is the authority on piped snorkels and the like.

Not sure what the plumbing does inside, but it's not like reinventing the wheel and I'm sure these guys will give advice.

200 TDI we always down the passenger side but the biggest problem is the heater box is right in the way.

This my old 90 which was 200tdi and had the snorkel on the passenger side.





I can be done but is really tight and difficult you need to go down the side of the heater, between the heater and wing, then underneath it and back to the engine.

Ideas to finish off snorkel

So I run 80mm Al tube down the DS door pillar, straight through the wingtop (welded to wingtop for security) pipe then straightens as it enters the guard) 90 degree silicone elbow then some massaged 80mm across the steering arm to another silicone 90 into the bottom of the air can.

Only issue on the passenger side is if you have a heaterbox in under the guard - will make routing pipework challenging.

I was thinking of making a flat section of chequer plate with a 3" alloy tube through it and mounting it on the vertical plane/side of the guard similar to where the 200 tdi had a factory hole cut to take an intake. This seems be located so the piping goes under the heater. I could then put a flat 90 degree bend on that going up the A-pillar.

Alternatively I could buy a Southdown flange to mount on the top of the guard as suggested by Lou and get the pipe work made up here.

This is the original from land rover uses the vent on the wing with a thin vent to get around the heater unit.



The other option is a cap that goes over the vent on the wing top and this makes it so you can put a pipe straight down in the vent hole and into the engine bay.

Thanks Reads. That's definitely an option.

Another option is to cut a section out of the left side edge of the bonnet near the firewall. The tube would feed straight into the engine bay and end very close to the turbo at the back of the engine. The bonnet would open/close over the top of the fixed tube. I could strengthen the edge with checker plate. This would be the simplest and most direct route. I'm sure I've seen something like this with Range Rover bonnets.

Any thoughts?
