    TDCi Defender Accessory thread

Well we've got the Appreciation thread so I suppose I should start an accessories thread.

Here's my list so far (some's done, some's on order, some is still a while off):

Seat Covers - I've ordered a set of Melvill & Moon canvas seat covers from Exmoor Trim in the UK - Will post pic's when they arrive. Only canvas ones in Australia are MSA (Michelle's Sacs) or Escape Gear (from Sth Africa) and are more expensive.

Snorkel About to order a Mantec Snorkel from the UK. I can get 2, yes 2, snorkels - including freight - from the UK for less than the price of one of these same new Mantec units in Australia. Other unit is for a friend in town.

Bullbar - ordered the ARB. Already have a new Warn XDC 9.5t winch for it. I'll also be putting heavier springs in the front to compensate.

Side steps - Her's and fitted

Tow kit - OEM fitted and well used

    Anderson plug - also fitted

Rear wheel carrier - about to order, going to try and get a Mantec unit or similar, also need to talk to Troutbeck - don't know if Len does one for post 02 models. If all else fails I'll get the Bearmach like on my other Defender.

Steering guard - Have a Troutbeck plate to fit

Diff guards - still to get these.

Spotlights - will leave these until I can afford some HID's. Already have latching switch for genuine dash switch.

Checkerplate - on the list, wing guards etc.

UHF - I temporarily fitted an Icom IC-440 for the drive back. I haven't completed the installation yet, unit will go under cubby and speaker/display/mic (its all combined) will be the only bit on the dash.

Engel plug - is fitted to the rear corner next to the speaker and back door.

Dual batteries - Sniegy did a fantastic job of fitting this under the passengers seat. I must post some pictures of this!

Brake controller - Redarc unit with remote head is fitted inside dashboard riser on driver's side. Panic button is one of the dash switches down by the A/C switch.

Rubber matts - I'm slowly adding more protective rubber matting to the back area.

Long range tank - undecided yet, may fit the 45L Front Runner unit sold by Opposite Lock.

Water tank - again undecided, need to work on whether its required.

Cargo barrier or load retention net - I must fit something, need to source this.

Personalised plates - New plates on order.

Definitely have to get some pic's as stuff goes on to the truck. Also I'm sure I've forgotten a few items.

Hi dm_td5, Here's my stuff, (so far )

ARB Winch Bar - I want to remount this as I can see it can go back 3 - 4 inches without too much trouble. I fitted "rangie red" springs from Les Richmond Automotive to take the extra weight.
Warn 9.5XP Winch - Plasma rope on its way from the US, I also need to fit an isolator in the cab.
ARB Compressor - Under the passengers seat.
Rock Sliders - Bearmach ones, these needed a bit of modifing to fit.
Quater panel protectors - Made them my self.
UHFCB - Mounted on the side of the center console, (all the controls are on the handset)
Scangauge II - Sits nicely on the steering collum
Front diff guard - Bearmach on powder coated black, (the gold was just too bling!!)
Bearmach Spare Wheel Carrier - Need modifing also

    Still to come:

    Lights - I really want HID's, but $$$$$!!
    Second Battery
    Drawers
Long range fuel tank - Probably the OL one, but also $$$$!!
    Water tank - See above

I think this vehicle will lead me to financial destitution!!!!

    Tim

PS. dm_td5 would you mind telling me where you got the switch for the spot lights?? (I did ask my dealer and they said it was not possible to fit switches in the blank spaces....)

Tim, switches are easy once pointed out. The back section is the same as on the D2 binnacle switches and the front fascia just unclips from the blanking piece and snaps on to the one from the Disco. A D2 cruise control switch is a latching switch for spotties (when I get them) and I used a D2 fog light (momentary switch) for the brake controller. The blanks can be gently eased out, just like on a D2.

    Spot Switch

I bought a Defender front fog lamp switch from British Parts UK for $12 plus postage ($12)

    Part No YUG 000540LNF

    www.britishparts.co.uk

I'm hoping there is a spare plug behind the dash on an unused loom that I can use. other wise I'll jury rig it.

All the switches are moveable so I'll move the rear window switches to the passenger side of the fascia, move the rear fog to the left and place the spot switch where the rear fog is now.
