I had this problem at the start of the year. Engine would crank over but would not start.
Had fuel pressure, had air, crank angle sensor worked and injectors were firing.

In the end it took testbook. I had to get test book to have a chat to my computer, once it did it started fine and ran. No problems since

So what was the problem that Testbook fixed?

changed the starter, havent been able to get someone to try and push start the td5 yet, its in a bad position to get moved, the nanocom was able to send voltage to test the injectors they all seem fine, the engine speed is 0 when cranking? i tried testing the cps after i cleanned it, i was able to get a safety pin into the plug at the ecu to see if there was any voltage when cranking the engine but no joy. does that mean its the cps or is there a better way to test.

engine speed 0 when cranking identifies a faulty crank angle sensor.

the initial diagnostic check only makes sure that the thing is electrically present not that its capable of doing its job.

if you get the "crank angle sensor noisy" fault thats usually an indicator of starter motor bushes on the way out.

    just checking the RAVE's now

ok the CKP is a signal generator and not a modulator. (crankshaft Speed/Position sensor)

it produces the voltages that the ECU reads. so there will be no voltage present with the engine stationary

Voltage generation from the ckp is relative to engine speed. A good CKP produces 2-3 volts while cranking and 6-6/5V at 1Krpm+

The airgap of the CKP to the reluctor ring will adjust the voltage.

The signal can be incorrect if one or more of the following occour.

    sensor assembly loose
    incorrect spacer
    sensor Open circuit
    sensort short circuit
    incorrectly fitted
    water ingression

There is no backup strategy for the CKP.

    Wink td5 alive again

thank you thank you thank you, its going, i am going to have to invest in a pressure gauge for the fuel, all the electrical seems to be fine except the mass airflow is 0.00 on the nanocom , have to check the wires incase i damaged them.

the problem........ i had read about the one way valve in the filter housing near the rear wheel, for some reason the pressure was not enough getting to the engine, when i took the pipe off at the engine there seemed to be good pressure. guess not, i replaced the filter housing with a spare i had and off she went.
thank you all for taking the time to reply and give ideas.

Not sure. Apparently my computer just wanted to stay in QLD, (I wan on holidays up there).
It was quite annoying as I had took the fuel pump out twice, replaced fuel filter, tested with a working crank angel sensor. Cleaned injector harness, pulled computer apart to check for oil, cleaned and then resealed. All of this took two days and testbook took 15 minutes.

There was no oil in the harness, no oil in computer, my rover just wanted to stay in QLD a few days longer. LOL
