How hard is it to drop the electronic bits and replace them with the manual bits from a V8 4HP22?
    Cheers

Now that is probably the 64 dollar question, best of both worlds. My short answer I really have no idea at all, at this time I probably have to yell for help from Justin as he has a wealth of knowledge more than me. But a very interesting question non the less and one that I will try to chase up as I think it may have potential

    Wholesale Automatic Transmissions

and adaptors, look under the other 4L80E bit in 'news' on their site.

If you want to stay away from the electronic bits you could go with a built 700r4 which is the same size, same bolt pattern and has a huge amount of aftermarket availability. If you do not need the overdrive, a turbo 400 is always a good bet and are a dime a dozen.

I don't know about discos, but John Davis has done a few rangies - possibly many as he has been doing them for many years and had a container full of engines a few years back. He mostly does the conversions for o/s clients.

Some years ago when he was in his LS1 powered rangie, he told me he thought they were the best engine for a rangie. I don't know what gearbox he uses.

I'm not sure what engine is in the pic below, but it was one JD was putting it in a rangie recently. Edit: this vehicle belongs to a local - not going o/s.

Hi Slunnie, Do you know how many people sell these kits?
The only person I know is Outer Limits in Sydney. I did buy one off him but he never supplied it so I got my money back.
So I have developed my own to suit (T700 4l60,4l60E VN-VS 4 bolt rear housing) and the other to suit (T700 4l60E VT Gen 3 onwards 6 bolt rear housing).
I am just about to test shortly.

I have just got a t700 4l60 rebuilt with new insides ( 5 pin Planetary gears front/rear etc etc. I am told it will handle 600 - 700hp). With some research on the internet and the components that have been installed in the tranny it should handle this HP.

    Regards Tebone

Hi Tebone, was that Overkill in Sydney? I think Haultech in QLD will also do them, but they haven't been happy that the conversion will be leak free. The T400/4l80E is done by Marks 4WD adaptors for about $1k, and I'm not sure how different that is to the T700 one.

I'd love to see pics of your work with it and to hear how it works out.
    Cheers

Wholesale Automatics (as posted in a link previously) spruik all sorts of adaptors and possibilities and do make reference to Rangies and all sorts of conversions. I only post the links up because they look like they know what they're doing and seem to have the resources to push the envelope.

Appear to be the sort of people where nothing is impossible.

Might be worth someone contacting them and seeing what all their LR options are, with some examples, and letting them know it will get posted on here.

    cheers, DL

Your right it was overkill, Once it has been tested and proven I will post some pics. I am also running 2 seals in my adapter, hopefully it won't leak. I have a spigot machined onto the adaptor so it fits into the transfer case and a spigot thats fits into the back of the transmission so the centre line of the output shaft should be exactly central in relation to my adaptor. I have made it out of a 200mm billet series 7000 aluminium. I have heard from someone they purchased a 4l80e adapter and it did leak but I am not sure the reason why.

    Regards Tebone
