    Whining from fuel pump

    G'day all, today's problem with the S1 Disco is a really loud whine coming from up the back somewhere, I presume it's the fuel pump?
    Is there anything I can do or does it have to be replaced?
    I swear, this thing is starting to give me more crap than my ex wife during "that time of the month" & costing about the same!
    Reckon the old 80 series Toyo is looking pretty good afterall.........

    I have the same problem with a D2, and yes in my case it is the fuel pump. I have tried to find a way to fit an externally mounted pump with an easily replaceable pre filter but it falls into the 'too hard basket'.

    My solution was to get a new fuel pump from Rovercraft - $580

    Does it sound like a car horn, which appears at some low throttle openings but disappears when you change the accelerator position? If so, are you sure it is the pump?
    Some time ago I fitted long range tanks to my D2, at which point the noise stopped completely and did not return. I then discovered that I had a small leak from a new join in the system breather, and when I fixed that, the noise returned immediately. From that I am certain that in my case, it is due to restricted airflow into the tank.
    I haven't bothered yet to do any further diagnosis, but the possibilities appear to be either (1) air flow into the tank through a noisy valve, or (2) the pump complaining about having to work at a lower tank pressure than was intended.
    I would be interested in your findings.

    The pump is warning you Do something soon or it'll stop. Would a Dunnydore pump work in the D1

    If it is a V8 - Yes. repco sell a VR Bosch made in Brazil for about $110 plus a couple of hours of manual dexterity first time.

    Was hopeing it might be something cheap & simple to fix?
    This car really is starting to become a finacial embarrasment!

    Assuming its the fuel pump, you should be able to walk/listen around the vehicle when stationary and idling, and confirm its indeed that. Take off the fuel cap before doing ths and it should be louder up the spout. It really is a DIY job, under the carpet in the load area is the pump access hatch. Buy a pump kit as recommended, wangle for trade and you may get it for around $80, a couple of non-strenuous hours to fit. Instructions are availabe from this forum!
    You can pinch a pump from a wrecked VN-on Commydore if you know of one, I did that once for a poor mate of mine...

    Very interesting comment Grumndriva,.........Because each & every time I remove the fuel cap to fill up, there is always air sucked into the tank as if there is a vacume within. I'm going to loosen the cap tomorrow & see what, (if anything) happens?
