    Flaking Paint

The way my car is parked in the driveway means that the same section of the bonnet is always exposed to the sun. As a result the clear on the side of the bonnet is starting to go milky and lift. The rest of the bonnet is fine but I guess in due course it will slowly go the same.

As it only covers a couple of square inches at this stage is it worth getting it seen to or is there no point and just wait until the whole bonnet goes and then get it repainted. It is only the clear flaking - the base coat is OK.

Garry, I just fixed a similar problem, I was told I would have to strip the whole bonnet of clear, as if you tried to feather it back and then paint the edges would lift and show through. So I feathered it back as best I could, started with about the same area as yours and ended up with a patch about 2 square feet. I spray puttied area and overlapped slightly, sanded back, had to do this a number of times to cover the edge of the clear, sprayed the base colour (Aspen Silver) and then sprayed the whole bonnet with clear, came out all right you cannot see where the repair was done. Or you can strip/sand back the total clear coat and respray, but that clear is as hard as diamonds, good luck, Regards Frank.

Thanks Frank - that was what I was thinking - not really prepared to give it a go myself so I might find a friendly spray painter.

    Cheers
