    Applying Rust Prevention

I'm off to Fraser this weekend, and was wondering if it was too late to spray the underbody with Lanox.

Last thing I really want is to have sand sticking to all the Lanox.

Don't know about the sand, but I just watched the the 4WD Action mag Vid on Fraser.
Roothy wasn't too impressed with the so called Back packing 4wders, and how they seem to have taken over the place.May be you might need something to keep them off LOL.

Yes it is too late. Your chassis will resemble sandpaper that will then set like glue.

Best to clean it thoroughly after you get back, apply rust converter on any surface rust, then lanolin or fish oil a few days later.

Ditto.. Tectyl in a spray can is awesome stuff. My upper tail gate on my 21 year old range rover still has no rust. And it's lived on the Gold Coast for the last 12 years of it's life.

    G'day Ranga

I agree with the other comment on Lanotec, however here is something that I have found worthwhile...

Make a "white oil" from vegetable oil and water. About 5-10% vege oil in water & shake it up to an emulsion. Put in in a garden sprayer or something else to apply it. Spray it all under neath. The water will shed off, leaving the oil coating over the metal parts, and will creep into joints well too.

Vege oil will not wash off as readily as mineral oil (eg sump oil, etc), and give you some good short term protection. I'd probably do it at only 5% so it doesn't built up too much and penetrate better. It'll be most beneficial & persistent in panel joints, where it won't get blasted off readily. ..and this is where rust is most problematic.

You can do the same after returning & washing down. It's not permanent so any sand that gets entrapped will wash off later.

Can't get any cheaper than that either.

    Enjoy Fraser
