Who's running H.I.D head lights

There are some amendments at the back of the ADR that clarify the provision of washers for any light source exceeding the 2,000 lumen level which I presume the HIDs would:

You're right PhilipA the document is almost inpenetrable. I still can't workout where the self leveling bit is :confused:

My understanding is that it is illegal to retrofit HID lights. If the vehcile was complianced with halogens then altering to HID's leaves you open, but would it be an issue?

From someone who works in the lighting field (not automotive) is that the main issue and what causes the "focus" problems is thata reflector is designed around where the maximum light output point of a globe is. Halogen V HID globes are very different so the reflector is not designed to focus the light output correctly resulting in the issue of being blinding for oncomming traffic.

My understanding from reading (first reading) the Rules posted if you have the Halogen low / HID high you don't need the washers and or leveling device:angel:

Also I was always told if earthing directly back to batteries it's important to earth to the battery providing the power. So if you're earthing back the the Aux you should be powering the lights from the Aux:o those more electrical may wish to comment:)

It is dangerous having Halogen low and HID high, when running with high beam and you dip your lights for is on coming vehicles your blinded for a few seconds until your eyes adjust back to the yellow light of the Halogens, this was the main reason I went to HIDs in the headlights, now with the HIDs in all, Hi and Lo no blindness when dipping the lights.

I had a couple of scary moments on curves when going back to low beam!!!

My spotties are HID too.

Didnt D2a's come out factory with HID at some point?? Been thinking about converting mine from the H7's in there now. Should be easier as each globe is single filament, just more expensive as I need 4 not 2 then I need to do the spotties too.... ;)

I believe the HID controls are quite voltage sensitive, hence the recommendation about earthing. The supply (positive cabling, relays, switching,...) also has to be adequate or they just won't ignite every time.

We went from 120watt halogen high beam to a 50 watt 4600 degree kelvin solenoid type HID and there is no comparison. HID's are excellent.

Set them up, especially when going on hols and you are loaded down a bit in the rear of the vehicle. I do this by adjusting the polyair pressure in the rear springs.

Hmmmm, thought there was a limited end of run that had them in HSE spec at some stage..... bugger.....

I just put some H.I.D lights in my 95 Disco yesterday.WOW what a difference they make.:D The light is so much brighter and everything is so much easier to see.Ive noticed that the light does seem to go alot further and is even on both sides.My question is that because the light spreads alot further in front of the Disco is there anyway of adjusting it down a bit? I notice where the headlamps click into, that you can screw them in or out.
Would this help in anyway? I never got flashed by anyone but i think they might be a little to high and reflecting into peoples rear vision mirror.Its only been one night with them on so im a bit worried about people flashing me.Other then that they are great and well worth it.
