How much to install a Detroit diff centre?

I have a Detroit no-spin diff centre (from Lucky-8) and have a quote of $400-$600 to install it. Does this seem reasonable?

I got a few quotes around $200 to setup if you supply them the diff centre. its a easy job to removed the diff centre yourself, and save youself a few bob too.

Now here is a man who can easily bench press 35Kg while sliding out from under. I find it hard with a bad shoulder from a car accident many years ago.

If you decide to take it out here is a tip.
Get a garage jack and drill two holes in the top "cup" of the jack at the correct distance for the two threaded holes in the bottom of the diff nos ethat on teh front diff hold the vibration damper.

Find two bolts with the correct thread etc and meet the jack up under the diff and connect the two bolts through the jack cup.

Up with the jack and some pulling and pushing and voila she will come out and be able to be wheeled out. You can use the two bolts that hold the vibration damper on the front diff if you cannot find any others..

I have found that Loctite flange sealant seals the diff well and the slight misalignment is no biggie.

If its a Sals, its only a matter of pulling the centre, replacing the gearset with the locker and refitting, but they may well be resetting with new carrier bearings

Haha, you are probably right Philip.

I used a trolley jack to lift my diff back into place. I balanced the diff flange on the trolley jack then slid it under the car, carefully jack it up and wiggle it onto the studs....

Canberra Motor Works. To be fair I didn't expect a firm quote as there's always unknowns, was just a bit more than I expected as I was under the impression it was fairly straightforward.

Not going to attempt myself, my tools are still in Perth and I don't have a workshop.

That explains the price - have you tried the Diff Doctor in Fyshwick. When I was doing my detroit I tried them for my carrier bearings and he had just used them on the dyna version of the sals which they were rebuilding, so they are familiar with our diffs.

I have never used them so cannot vouch for their work but they are an alternative to get a quote from.
