RRC something strange with the brakes

Just bought a S/H maxi-drive rear complete assembly .There is something strange with the Outer brake pads on both sides .The outer pads appear to have ground a groove into the Hub . Never seen this before , its as if whatever installed the Pads , for some reason cocked them forward in the Calipers ever seen this before

is about the most constructive thing I can add.

looks at best the pads were not installed properly and at worst the wrong pads have been fitted.

I would have thought that you would have heard that ginding everytime you drove the car.

Yes Trobbo , with that amout of grinding going on Im amazed it got that far without him noticing something. I bought it sight unseen in ($1000 on ebay ) Melbourne and have had it freighted to me 5000K's away .Yep looks as if the pads have fallen through from when they were first fitted , strange how it was only the outers , the inners were fine !!

looks like wrong pads. IIRC, there should be location pins and retaining springs to locate the pads, but even then, the pads slot into the caliper and cant really drop down anyway.

Depends what the diff came out of. If you know, just have a look in a Bendix brake pad catalogue. They usually have silhouettes in the back with the pad part number to match them.

    Cheers

Wrong pads would be my guess too.

A mate tried replacing his not long ago, and got the wrong ones too.

Thanks LOVEMYRANGIE , one quick check of the Bendix catalog shows you were right
The Fool has fitted early model Pads (70-85 DB843) to a later model Caliper and should have used (86-89 DB1285) Different outer locating lug pattern !!
