I'll way into this, I'm pretty hard on my D2 (discowhite knows this) and to date I have done, 1 front diff, axle and CV, rebuilt the transfer case and gearbox, all of this I put down to me, driving the car way to hard.

I love this fact, but never quite sure where everyone get it from?

Probably invented by Landrover's advertising department. But, it is probably true. All that is necessary for this to be true is to have a rapidly increasing rate of production for a few years, and Landrover had this with the Discovery.

But it is also very likely that there are a greater proportion of Series (and early 90/110) Landrovers still in use than any other contemporary vehicle. Just to take an example, in Australia, eighties Landrovers still in use would include the Army Landrovers - most of which are still in use, and probably outnumber civilian ones! Similar figures probably apply for example in the uK, although there would be more civilian ones.

Are we allowed to compare landrover diesels to toyota diesels?

Can we start with 2.4 turbo toyota (2LT) vs 200tdi.
Then 3 litre turbo toyota (1KZ) vs 300tdi.
    Then the 12valve 4.2 turbo (1HD-T) vs TD5.

hahah yeah tell me about it. I hear people quote it all the time (with various different percentages thrown in) without absolutely no evidence to back it up..except they heard someone say it once.

I guess facts don't come into account when people are defending glorious Land Rover

    I've always loved the joke:
"They say 9 out of 10 Land Rovers ever made are still on the road today. The other 1 made it home"

Haha, you know there is only 2 vehicles to take into the australian outback, a toyota landcruiser or a land rover, but only 1 vehicle to take if you want to make it back

I dont think this is going to be a fair fight on a Rover forum but i am agnostic when it comes to cars. I am a fierce landy supporter but i will never discount a tojo. Alot of it comes down to the driver at the end of the day. For instance this weekend at ripleys i was twin locked and couldnt make it up a climb that my mate in a stock standard hilux with just a 2" n average tires made it up. Maybe he picked a better line maybe he wasnt scared to roll it but point is he made it up. Different strokes for different folks but i am big enough to concede that 70, 80 and 100 series (at least the solid front end ones) are excellent vehicles and i wouldnt turn down a free one!

Personally, I hope most people continue to believe the Toyo IS more reliable. That way I can continue to own vehicles that is twice as good for half the price.

Go and look for 30 roadworthy 1960's vintage LC's and then 30 series 2-2a's and then you'll have your evidence. Pat
