    RRC Fuel Filter

    Hi all,
I have a leaking fuel filter in my Rangie and need to sort it so I can drive home tonight. My w/s manual's at home so I'm hoping someone may be able to post up the page showing how to remove it (or tell me how to)?!

    Pretty please...?!

    TIA

    Stu

Right, so am still at work, waiting for the wife to pick me up. I've had some of the boys helping and we've found the filter cap (?) has had the thread stripped.

Anyone know if there's an easy alternate replacement (i.e. Holden, etc) I can get over the weekend or will I need to wait til next week and get a LR equivalent?

Also, can anyone tell me what the diode on the fuel line is for and where I can get a replacement? Is it an intertia switch or something? I managed to break one of the wires off and there's not enough wire to join back together.

    Thanks

    I'm home now.
The device in the electrical supply to the fuel pump lists as "resistive wire".
I can only guess it's there to reduce the voltage to the pump.

Thanks Mick but this diode is between the carbies and the filter. The fuel pump is at the rear of the vehicle, so I'm not sure it has anything to do with the pump but I could be wrong (it's happened on more than one occassion in the past - so my wife keeps telling me)!!!

This is the diode which sits on the fuel line between the Fuel filter & the carbies.

I have LPG on the Rangie but don't think it's linked? The fuel pump stops when switched to LPG so I 'm not sure it's anything to do with that.

Can anyone tell me what it's for? As you can see, one of the wires has been pulled out so I need to replace it.

    It's not a diode.
It looks like a fuel isolation solenoid valve to me.
It is probably the device that cuts off the fuel supply to the carbies whilst the gas system in in operation.

Thanks Mick. Do you know if these would be a specialist item or should I be able to pick one up from Repco, etc?

Not sure about Repco. These are a fairly specialised item. Try gas systems parts suppliers or gas systems installers. Do a Google search on fuel system cut off solenoid or automotive gas system parts suppliers

You should be able to unscrew the device and separate the solenoid from the valve and ends - the solenoid should be a standard hollow device.

Solenoids ( 'coils' apparently in LPG fitter parlance) are usually available at places that do LPG fitting. ($30 ish).

If the carbs don't suction fuel from the tank whilst the electric pump is off, you could always leave it out.

If you have no joy from your local LPG fitter - Progas at W'Gabba (105 Norman) had a lot of stuff. (I had to replace a couple of solenoids that had a intermittent fault)

This gadget has a diode in it so to suppress voltage spikes when switched on. I would call it a petrol shut-off solenoid, and, yes, it's important. Without it your petrol would surge forwards through the pump during steep descents, rapid stops and whenever there is vapour pressure in your petrol tank. So they are readily available from any lpg installer, many wrecking yards, and sometimes ebay. You can also carefully file or cut away the plastic around the broken wire and solder on a new one.
