As you rightly pointed out, the air can be held on recirc for the duration of a trip if the button is pushed and held in until the light flashes. Certainly not a show stopper but just a petty annoyance. Thanks again for your help.

There was something in the manual about multiple pressing of the recirc button which didn't work but whilst dicking with it, figured out to hold it until it flashed. LR then confirmed this when I asked them. Interestingly my Berlina and my wife's Pug, when you select Auto (as in climate control), switches off recyle....so I figured that some rocket scientist had figured that this was the best way to ventilate your car. I thought that maybe the filters in the system sort dust and pollen out of the air you breath.
