LS1 in a freeloader would be cool
cheers phil
Just flicking through ebay looking at random land rover things. There are quite a few of the 1.8L freelanders going quite cheap, for obvious reasons. Just wondering if there is an alternative option engine wise. Has anyone had any success putting a different motor in them, say a commodore v6 or something like that, would it be possible?
As far as i can see the motor is the main issue with them and when purchased in diesel from that are pretty good, so if you could buy a seriously cheap 1.8L model and do a heart transplant, would they be a good value run around?

Check out the thread by Jesusfreak. It's nearly finished the last time I looked.

Ace, be original and try a holden v6(or TTv6 or SCv6) in one, that would be an interesting conversion, you could even go as far as using a t700/lt230....
There's a few Freelanders in the UK that have been plonked on RR/Disco chassis'. They share the same wheelbase.

the freelanders arent that bad, aside from the 1.8L petrol they are a good vehicle.
I have a double locked disco, want something smaller to run around town, i like the look of the freelander and to be honest the challenge of solving the much discussed 1.8L cooling system intrigues me. The vehicles are cheap and there are alot of people working on solving the problem, remote thermostats etc etc. Aside from this problem the engine itself isnt that bad as far as i can see.
Having said all that if there is an alternative engine available then cheap freelanders might not be such a bad thing.
