I can not imagine a wash doing the key any good. Have you dried it out and given it a go? I ask as my father inlaw took one of my keys for a swim and it was okay.

You can avoid a tow by bypassing the alarm system. You'll need the EKA (Emergency Key Access) code which your local dealer can get for you. The entry procedure for the code is in your handbook.
A dealer can also supply the key but a cheaper option is getting one from the UK (make sure it's the correct frequency for your car & has the bar code with it).
