    Installing R380 & LT230 - together or not?

    Hi there,
My LT230 will be coming back from its rebuild later this week. Just wondering whether to bolt the gearbox & transfer together before installing, or install one at a time to the vehicle. I know it would be very heavy, but apart from this, can it be done?

If you have a transmission jack that fits with both boxes together then it shouldn't be a problem, but to lift using manpower would not be feasible, you couldn't get enough blokes under there. If you can get at the boxes from the top through the floor with a chain block slung through the doors then you might do it, but for safety's sake and ease of installation I would fit them seperately, Regards Frank.

I saw how they do it with a 3 bloke tag team in Africa you need two hefty strops two bolkes doing the lifting through the floor (you need a brake of some kind so once around the chassis rail on either side) then the other bloke guides it in so it goes in straight over the shaft.

    And also what frank said

    Thanks Frank,
I think I'll take your advice and go separately.
I was just thinking of the hassle it is to connect the hi/lo and diff-lock linkages as well as aligning the input shaft without damaging the input seal of the LT230.
I guess as others have mentioned, just put 2 long bolts without heads for alignment...

Go 3 instead of 2 , it will leave less chance of twisting.
