    Not Coming up to Temperature

I recently changed the heater hoses because of a leak and the thermostat because it gave the signs of being stuck closed for longer than it should, eventually it would open and the motor would come up to temp.

Now what's happening is, it is not coming up to temp at all, with max temps of 79c via the Nanacom and 85c via the Madmans EMS1, even the factory gauge drops and reading the Nanocom is does this around 70c.

It will sit at these temps for a short while then slowly drop to the mid 60s then start to rise again, the factory gauge will begin to rise when the Nanocom gets above 75c.

Now my thinking is, seeing as it may not be the thermostat, (although I can't be sure) could it be the heater matrix has an air lock, or it has a leak somewhere and is not pressurising fully.

I'm over it at the moment, anyone have an idea.

    Baz.

I would be leaning towards the thermostat, does your heater blow hot air? turn off the air con and set the temp for max which i think is 28 degrees see if it cooks you

It is still blowing hot air as long as the coolant temp is in the 70s, when it begins to drop, the hot/warm air gets cooler.

I'll try what you say and see how it goes this afternoon, but being climate control, econ is the only way to turn off the aircon, I'm assuming that is what you mean or do you mean take it off auto??

    Baz,

Feel your hoses for temperature as all are pretty well accessible. That way you know you have full circulation.

Also check that the fuel is up to temp as well. It takes forever to get your coolant to circulate through the fuel cooler and ultimately to your thermostat.

I'd be putting all my money on the new thermostat.
It opening and closing at the wrong settings would cause what you are describing.
I replaced mine before a 4 week desert trip. The new thermostat was the only thing to go wrong.
I know you want it to be something else, because it such a bugger to change.

You see the thing is, the stat I just put in is my old one that I thought was bugger over 12mths ago, when in fact it wasn't, there was another issue, I'm not putting the new one back in

It is doing the same thing as the new one, but this afternoon I cranked up the heater and it seemed to help, it actually got hotter (we were sweating like a mongrel in the car) so it is circulating and the stat is working, I think there is an airlock somewhere, just getting it out is proving harder than I thought.

I gave all the hoses a feel and all were hot except for the hose after the fuel cooler, if all else fails then I'll buy a new stat and start again.
