Ed, airflow code will most likely be triggered by Overboost, other EGR and Air con etc are standard Defender faults here in Aus, not a worry. Injector open cicuit or open load is possibly down to wiring loom etc, Definately get the MAF readings checked with Nanocom or similar, adle it should be 59 to 62 Kg/hr, and should exceed 590 to 600 under hard driving
No need to use a Rovacom etc when fitting injectors to new engine as long as they go back in the same positions, and for goodness sake MAKE SURE they use new sealing washers and Orings!!!!

You can't melt pistons by leaning out a diesel, overfuelling WILL do it.

You are welcome to give me a call if you need advice,(03) 6229 1102BH and if they are $100 an hour then $2k isn't far off the mark with an auto trans involved.

    Thanks.

The last few weeks before it died I was looking for the fuel leek. My range had droped by almost 1/3rd.

I have Ton'y nanocome at the moment. Have to arrange the return of it. I want one now.

Still interested to see what happened to the engine as there was no big bangs. just
Power loss with smoke and steam from around bonnet and transmission cover. It also stalled as I lifted my foot to pull over.

It dumped oil and coolant on the side of the road and later would not turn over on the starter. Just a clunck of the starter engaging so either hydrolocked or worse.

    For those following this thread.
Engine was hydro locked. Still not cracked it open to see the damage. turbo wastgate had ceased.

Rig is still in workshop waiting on
    rebuilt alternator to be ready
    rebuilt turbo to be ready
all to be bolted back together.

So now I have replaced almost all of it Only bits not done are the aircon pump and power steering.

Will be nice with all new parts.

    And still it continues.

Turns out turbo is responsible for all the coolant in the intercooler and inlet manifold. It's damage is severe so not just a kit through it.
So now it's a new turbo to add to the list of bits.

I now have the newest TD5 in the country.
    Engine mounts were still useable.

How is the turbo responsible for coolant in the intercooler????? They're not water-cooled.....

    Cheers

Once the coolant is flowing in the oil and your turbo seals have gone it's going to flow everywhere it can so exhaust, and through the intercooler back to the engine.

Don't know still waiting on my alternator and new turbo to arrive so the workshop can install the engine. Once that's done I can pick it all up and start playing with the old bits.

I can confirm that the head never overheated due to the temp sensor in the back of the head.

So as i know nothing about diesels this might be a good time to ask a question

How would the head gasket failing cause water to get into the turbo

It would need to be a considerable hole to find (water\coolant) in the inter cooler
If it was getting in through the oil feed to the turbo it would be milky sludge in the inter cooler not just coolant

    So why is this so
