INter674, I already have LPG fitted to the vehicle, which is perfect for the city, but when you are paying $1.25/L it's not actually any cheaper to run on gas than on petrol. Add to that the fact that I can travel 700km down the road without coming accross anywhere that sells LPG, and then only 1 that sells unleaded, and my issues are more about fuel range than fuel cost. I am about to embark on a trip next week out from town and through the Northern Kimberley which will involve more than 600km of (what I'm lead to believe) reasonably difficult 4wding, and it would be nice to do this without carrying extra jerry cans on the roof. These types of trips aren't necessarily isolated instances, it is more of the norm when you live in an area this isolated. On a different tangent, it even spreads to the water where most trips in my 13' tinny involve day trips of over 100km. I went out with a mate in his boat for a few days recently, and we travelled several 100km without seeing anyone else but the other boat that we went with. Isolation can be a wonderful thing, but just maybe not with the limited range of a thirsty V8.
By the way, what kind of power/torque can you produce from a 300tdi and still retain economy and longevity? Can you get much more torque than the V8? Because that may be the path that I need to look at for the future.

    Hi Low Ranger,
If you are looking for way more torque then I'd be looking at an intercooled Isuzu 4bd1T. The fitting probs have been solved IE: this motor has been fitted to the R380, and was factory fitted to the LT95 and the early 5 speed (LT85?), adaptors for the Isuzu truck box to the LT230 Transfer has also been done.

That said, it's a big conversion given were you are and with out the ability to pop down to the watever shop to check out some part.

A VNT 300Tdi may be a better way to go. have a look here.
