    Yep you're dead right as it is very caustic......that's why it's best to select the heavy duty option so the longer rinse cycle flushes it nice and squeaky clean. (I usually give the alloy a liberal spray with Inox after to stop any further corrosion affects )

    BTW - I only do this when SHMBO is out of the house and leave the dishwasher exactly as I found it

    biggest problem getting caught is that they will figure out we know how to use dishwashers

    And where does all this petroleum based greasy water go from the dishwasher? Straight down the sewer mains ( not legal)

    But then again, How do you dispose of greasy water???

    Same place as the greasy frypan oil after you've been cooking bacon. Trade waste goes down the sewer (licensed of course) so environmentally, a little engine residue is not a problem.
