D1 over-heating at times

Air lock can happen in a blocked Heater core


If you suspect it ... You can bypass the heater ... but you must loop the heater hoses to reconnect and complete the coolant curcuit

Hi Mike,

According to the supplier, there is no wedge shaped piece of rubber that is shipped as part of the inventory.

What else (in your opinion) could be used for this, as either i would need to make one, or buy something similar from someone.

Have you got a photo of this temp gauge ... The probe end & all the parts supplied??

HI Mike,

It looks almost like that, with the fitting already attached, as in your picture.

The link that you sent me for the Good ol gauges (eBay) has the exact pics of the gauge.

Then you don't clamp them under the hose ... You will have to find a spot and fit it properly

I'm not sure on what "extra's" for fittings they gave you .... but Brass T pieces can help in fitment .... Local Agricultural hardware shops usually have a variety of brass fittings

(I installed the oil gauge and spent 2hrs in different stores collecting the needed brass parts)



If your not sure .... I'll pop the bonnet of my wrecked 96 Disco on the weekend and find a spot for you :)
Or I'll shape up a piece of rubber hose for clamp fitment and take a photo of it

I really appreciate the help. I have never worked on a car before, so im really trying to understand everything here without killing something inbetween.

As for the heat spike, its still there.. NExt step as suggested is bypass the Heater core, and check it.

Something i had noticed on the weekend was, from a cold start, driving off immediately. about 300m up the road, the temp gauge showing as 'Normal' operating temp. I would have thought it would take longer than that to heat up.

Can't comment on the above .....



To bypass the heater .... Buy 600mm of 3/4" hose for the loop (check the hose size) ... Don't allow the hose to "kink" ... as it must allow coolant flow

HI,

Update on where we at with this potential over-heating problem.

Finally managed to fit the analog gauge (that was a mission all on its own)

However.. the problem remains, and has extended

Latest now is the analog gauge and standard (OEM) temp gauge are showing the same results in that when the one gauge spikes, so does the other.

OEM gauge would spike to about 3/4 of the 'normal' range, and the analog would spike to about 85C (not sure how accurate the analog is or what the temp range of the analog is, but im guessing it could be trusted)

Could it be that the water temp is really high as to spike the gauge and then a couple seconds later come back down to the half-way mark? If so, how could this be happening?

Im really starting to get desperate on this now as the old girl is having to be parked mostly now (as a precaution) and needs to be sorted for December as she needs to make the long trip from Brisbane to Melbourne.

Join the club im having the same problem just started

It drives perfect sits on halfway all day every day on the road
After about 20min of walking pace offroad it starts to climb gets to about 3/4 so i turn it off let it cool down once i get back on the road the temp goes straight back to halfway no problems
I have changed The water pump thermostat flushed the radiator new Viscous fan clutch
Last night i took all the ac gear out as it doesn't work anyway
Im hoping that by removing the rad and fans for the ac it might get enough air to keep cool at slow speeds
