my D2a TD5 is a pile of dog poo!

i did the maf 2 days ago, there was no differance at all in idle or performance, unlike when it died the first time the auto shift was crap and performance dropped a bit.

something that may be related is in the nanocom there is a value given for torque. when my ecu and the other was read both values were quite different. it was read from the abs/sls section of the nanocom and after reading this from the rave i wonder if its actually relating to the auto?

mine shows way higher engine speed and low torque, opposite for the good D2?

something as simple as a faulty temp sensor........?



want to try a different nanocom.......?

in the rave cd set there is a bunch of running tests that you do on the auto to assess the kickdown/changeup points....

best done with a pressure gauge hooked up but you can do the preliminaries without one and by the seat of your pants.

Hi Phil,

I checked the engine torque reading on my D2 (02, TD5, ACE, Auto, tombie chip & usual tweeks), mine is "374" (engine speed cycling between 234 and 195 with engine off as per your test) - far better than your 'good car'.

Given that my fuel economy is no better than 580klm for an 80L fill I would say that this torque reading is not valid.

from what you are saying any auto that still drives should give you better fuel econ IF its your auto playing up--

Did you say you replaced the temp sensor?

I have a perfectly good working fuel pump sitting here if you wanted to borrow.......

ta, ive got a brand new FP in a box to go in sometime, and i havnt replaced the TS yet as it reads the same as my test disco at the same temps.

its not just yours thats lacking in the fuel economy dept........


it appears that that quite a few of us are having similar issues......
so im sitting here following this thread waiting for result so i can sus mine out as well......

yesterday i cleaned a heap of mud out of my radiator and intercooler......
hopefully that should help the turbo.....giving back a bit more power...which means ill need less go pedal......
which should hopefully mean less fuel usage........



if you have two identical cars you can interchange bits between......
try swapping different sensors between the two......and see if you transfer the problem from one to the other........

im quite happy to swap any bits you may want with lurch if it helps......
just give me a buzz......you got my number.........




im thinking the quality of fuel in australia may have something to do with all this......

Sorry to hear you are still banging your head against the wall!!!!
235/85 tyres do make the D2 TD5 work hard,they sent my consumption thru the roof.Any chance of trying a few tanks on the OEM tyre size???,bear in mind the 235/85 adds roughly 10% to the odometer reading,you have actuallt traveled 10% further than indicated.(will make your figures sound a little better)
My consumption did get as bad as yours(man with MSB ECU) Since a new MAF,new temp sensors,and NNN ECU with strong tune I have returned to an "indicated" 800km per tank(+10% due to 235/85 tyres).It is a totally different beast to drive,yet to fit the new ASE intercooler.I do use the new found life,also note I dont need to push the loud pedal past half way,in the past it was always to the boards.
