I'm pretty keen on gettings some air bags from trucksrpings.com to replace my helpers in the rear 130 springs - and so will need to fabricate some retaining plates for the top as you don't seem to be able to buy them off the shelf.
I don't have the tools or know how to work with metal, and I don't have a lathe.
Taking some inspiration from Mrs Ho Har's
I was wondering whether I could simply cut up a plastic chopping board using a jigsaw - one circle slighty larger than the next and then fix them together and drill a hole with a holesaw for the air line.
What do you think? Will this work. Strong enough?
Any other simple ideas for fabricating a top retainer plate with only basic tools.
As an alternative could I just get a circular plate cut as my local fabricator like ....
and get it welded onto the stock spring retainer as shown in the bottom of the photo?
I assume the problem is the bag will not be adequately retained due to the size of the hole in the retainer.
Anyone know the outside diameter of the spring retainer?
Towe,
I know you will prob want to go with the cheaper truckspring option BUT if you buy the Defender 110 Polyair kit with 2" lift you can use some of your 130 inner spring components to make a very SIMPLE neat top locating setup. The supplied top rubber mount small lip is cut down till it squeezes into the old inner spring retaining plate. You can just use a sharp blade to do this. I posted photos somewhere in the 90/110/130 section from memory.
The 2" lift spacer from polyair in the bottom will protect the bag from the retainer bolts.
Helper bags work very well on my 130... better ride empty or laden than with inners springs and LESS sag when at GVM than with inner springs.
