If big ends are an issue I would think checking bearing crush while replacing them would be a good idea. Does anyone do that these days? It's what I learned as a lad, and I'm sure shells loose in the big end would fail.
Gday
As a few know I have a fairly well tweaked 300 Tdi in my Defender
VNT Turbo
Turner Performance Head
Bigger Intercooler
3 Inch exhaust
Diesel Gas
And a tad more fuel than standard
I'm just interested to know what will let go first?
Someone mentioned spinning a big end
I was talking to a Poozer driver on the weekend and he seemed to think the same thing. Apparently Cruisers have a similar problem with the turboed engines
He seemed to think a new set of big ends every 100,000 would be a good idea
Bear in mind I am only running about 18psi at max boost spiking to close to 20psi and rarely going over 700 degrees on the pyro
What are everyones thoughts?

Given 18psi and 700 deg max EGT I would say nothing will "let go".
It is a good idea to replace big-end bearings every 250,000km as a matter of course, regardless of tweeking. Rings every 500,000km.
The gas will help keep the oil clean which has a positive effect on longevity.
Enjoy your tdi. They are a wonderfully robust engine - just dont cook it.
I think it'll do what a stock one will do,everything you have done will make the engine work less for the same performance so it should have a good life span. Pat
I'm going to vote for the cooling system going first .....
When you are driving you don't need to put your foot down as hard, unless you drive everywhere with your foot down hard.Jock,I wound some fuel off when I fitted the D/gas,it now pulls up hills better with only a 20degree increase in EGT's. Pat
Clutch and brakes will go 1st I would guess.
The rest is just a twaek and you probably know how to look after a motor if you done all that wizardry.
Do oil changes and keep cooling system good.
Oh and your window winders and door locks will probably be next.
